i stumbled upon the story of colleen stan earlier today and spent a few hours learning about her story of horrific torture and survival. there have been few cases that shook me the way hers has. the thought of someone being forced to stay in a coffin sized box for 23 hours a day and only being released to be subjected to further abuse of all forms makes my skin crawl with disgust. not to mention all of the emotional abuse and manipulation to the point where she was allowed to see her own family and still chose to go back with her captors. this will stick with me for a long time. humanity can truly be violent and depraved…

Dreary torture porn about a woman who has Stockholm syndrome for 7 years but if you like Addison Timlin and the colour yellow you might enjoy it. If you're fascinated by the case it's based on (Colleen Stan) just watch a doc, and man alive did the 87 minutes feel a damn sight longer, which I appreciated the irony of.

I was today years old when I found out “Woman in a Box: Virgin Sacrifice” (1988) was also based on the same story 🤯 You won’t find that mentioned on Wikipedia!
For Lifetime, this is surprisingly not tasteless. It glides through the history of the case - and perhaps suffers from a bland male lead (who is also too attractive for the role). I really enjoyed the score.
Well, maybe it’s not too respectful - when it’s grouped as a “Girl in the…” collection on the Lifetime Movie Club 📦

Girl in the Box confines the sadistically depraved dynamics between the Hookers, where they kidnap Colleen Stan and mould her into a submissive sex slave for seven years, to a decently produced TV movie that struggles to provide much psychological insight into the real-life abduction other than superfluous Stockholm Syndrome which often felt impotent for the sake of condensing the entire Wikipedia article into ninety minutes.
For a Lifetime feature though, surprisingly well acted! Just somewhat pointless…
